Oldest Church on Solomons Island

Established in 1866, we are the oldest church on Solomons Island.  The photo on the right shows our church at the end of the wooden bridge that led to Solomons Island.  The photo below shows a model of Solomons Island with the same bridge.  A similar photo and the model are on display at the Calvert Marine Museum.
Our building is a typical 19th century tidewater country church, made of wood and painted white. The vestibule is in a bell tower. A center aisle leads to a chancel and antique crafted pulpit. The lectern is made of original building studs removed during the 2002 renovation. Beautiful antique stained glass memorial windows surround the sanctuary.

SUMC 150 Anniversary Presentation

In 2018, long time member and church historian Helen Rickert received the Calvert County Historic Preservation Service Award for her dedication to the research and preservation of the history of Solomons United Methodist Church and the history of Solomons.
Helen accepted the award at The Calvert County Courthouse from The Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday, May 22, 2018.

In 2019, after Helen passed away unexpectedly, SUMC recognized Helen’s ministry by dedicating the History Room in her memory.
