Operation Solomons Thrives (OST)
With the beginning of a new year 2021, Solomons UMC began a new process to discern how to live our lives anchored to God, our community, and our place in creation.

The United Methodist Church has a process to help congregations who aren’t fully living out their mission and calling, or are unsure about their mission and calling. It’s not just SUMC; many churches today are at a crossroads about how to fruitfully and effectively share the message and love of Jesus Christ to transform lives, communities and the world. Our congregation is unsure as to how to live into this mission, having lost our discipleship focus. We see and feel the results – lack of participation in ministries and stewardship, and inadequate financial resources to meet our expenses, etc.
Please take the time to read the attached letter, which introduces Operation Solomons Thrives (OST), and then participate in one of the Town Halls in which we will share information and answer questions.
SUMC held a special charge conference on March 6, 2021, at which time we discussed the recommendation of the Operation Solomons Thrives (OST) Team.  Please click the link below to read the OST Team Report:
After this report was written but prior to the March 6 meeting, the original three alternative recommendations were condensed into the following single recommendation:
Recommendation: Discontinuance of Solomons United Methodist Church with relaunch as a mission center

A majority of those members present on March 6 wanted more information prior to voting on the OST recommendation, so a second charge conference was held on March 13 for the purpose of voting on that recommendation.  The majority of the members present on March 13 voted to approve the following recommendation:
Approved: Solomons United Methodist Church will be dissolved and relaunched as Solomons Mission Center, no later than June 30, 2021.
